Ceremony

We immediately fell in love with Markree when we saw it. It's the stuff that fairytales are made of and this is afterall meant to be a fairytale day. Be warned - this is not a posh castle hotel - it defines shabby chic! But with that comes a sumptious authenticity and we know that you will feel as wowed as we did by the hundreds of years of history oozing from every nook and cob webbed cranny.

The Ceremony is being held on site in the Castle's gorgeous chapel - we're a little worried about capacity and it may be that everyone has to stand if our numbers are as wild as they look at the moment - if that's the case we'll have some seats for those that really need them and will keep it short and sweet!

Rob is particularly delighted that it's probably the only castle in Ireland to have a big stained glass representation of an English King - Henry VIII no less! So all the English prods won't feel too much under siege ;-) You can find out more on the history of markree section on this site.

When we go back again to do the whole food tasting thing we'll write the directions from Knock airport which is the nearest airport and a very straight forward approx 25 minute drive. The lift sharing element of this site might be useful for those of you who want to share hire cars and may be on the same flights but maybe not know each other.

It's approx a 2.5-3 hr drive from Belfast and about 2 hrs drive from Dublin.

For the equine peeps or those who fancy doing something different - there's a brilliant equestrian centre on the estate and you can book a horseback tour of the grounds if you're around for it and the weather is all right.

Ignore the atlas on this by the way - not having any postcode has confused google maps!
